A learning event was held by the Branch on 21st May as part of the national Adult Learners Week campaign. The Branch was fortunate to have superb support from local learning providers. The nearby Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology not only sent their Union studies tutor and their numeracy and literacy teacher to advise attendees; but also members of the beauty therapy department. The tutor brought 5 students who are currently undertaking a two year course who gave free taster sessions in Foot Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. These were a great success with everyone who tried them out: we were all less stressed! Attendees could also plant a tomato and take it home, earn a goodie bag by answering numeracy questions, learn from the WEA about free courses, and learn to spin a plate.
The Branch were given great support from the boththe national and regional levels of UNISON. Emma Lipscombe from national, Fred Cattle and Gurdeep Singh from region also provided must appreciated support and knowledge at the event for not only the attendees but also the Branch officers present.
This was the first time the branch had hosted an event during Adult Leaners Week, and follwoing this success it is hoped that it will form the foundation of a healthy learning environment for UNISON members in the NHS Trust.
